Man Confesses to Church Vandalism, Says He’ll Be Rewarded by God

Cheektowaga, NY (WKBW)- Cheektowaga Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connected to an unusual vandalism case at St. Philip the Apostle R.C. Church located on Losson Road in Cheektowaga. Police say 30-year-old Michael Taylor confessed to damaging and defacing 3 historic statues. The pastor of the church discovered the damage last Thursday before 7 o'clock mass. Detectives say Taylor has been homeless for a few months and was known to patrol officers. Officers stopped and questioned him on French Road in connection to the vandalism. When officers approached, Taylor was reading aloud from the bible and stated "God's law superseded New York State Law". Police also found notes similar to those left at the church following the vandalism citing biblical verses about false gods and idols. Taylor later confessed to the vandalism, and led police to a shed where officers found a hammer allegedly used to damage the statues.
