Man gets 8 years in prison for church arson

| February 23, 2011

The Cope man charged with burning down a 110-year-old church building and breaking into a fire department was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison.

Although Daniel Lynn Parton, of 42 Hills Road, offered no apology to church members or the court, the Rev. Fedrick Wilson said the congregation holds no malice toward the 18-year-old.

"Our church forgives Mr. Parton for the act of violence committed against the church," Wilson said. "We ask God's blessings on Mr. Parton and pray for him.

"It's sad to see such a young man go to prison for that amount of time."
