Man sentenced for Roanoke shooting

| September 15, 2009

The man who shot a church secretary last March will spend ten years in prison.

Tuesday morning in Roanoke Circuit Court, Lamar Antonio Brown entered pleas of no contest to three charges, including malicious wounding.

The victim was shot in March as she left work at Central Baptist Church on Staunton Avenue. The woman was injured, but was able to drive herself to the Fire/EMS station on 24th Street.

The prosecutor says Brown and the victim had dated, but the woman ended the relationship a couple of weeks before the shooting.

She still feels some effects from her injuries, but the prosecutor said the woman is doing "amazingly well."
