Man takes from church that helped him

A Stillwater man allegedly stole $600 worth of prepaid gift cards from a church that had offered him financial assistance earlier this year.

Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Stillwater reported the stolen gift cards Tuesday, according to the Stillwater Police Department report. The church has a collection of prepaid gasoline, Cub Foods and Target gift cards as part of the church's "Grace Fund" – money set aside for people having a personal crisis and in need of financial help.

On Monday, Our Savior's pastor noticed that $400 worth of Holiday pre-pay gas cards and $200 worth of Cub Foods and Target gift cards typically held in his office were missing.

Officers contacted the Holiday Gas Station corporate office and were able to track down some purchases made with the Holiday gift cards. Officers interviewed employees at the Holiday Station off Manning Avenue who identified one of the gift-card users as Blaze William Schultz, 22, of Stillwater.

Using the station's video footage, officers tracked down the vehicle Schultz used to the Lily Lake Ice Arena parking lot. There, officers found Trissa Herbst, 19, who was seen with Schultz at the Holiday Station earlier. There were used pre-paid gift cards next to the vehicle and in the garbage can near the car.
