Mount Dora Synagogue Targeted By Vandals

| July 10, 2011

MOUNT DORA, Fla. — The community converged, 100 strong, on the Traditional Congregation of Mount Dora after word spread quickly about the vandalism done to its new synagogue.

"The Mount Dora congregation were all excited about their shiny new building and on the eve of them moving in, this kind of thing happens. It's quite shocking and disgusting, quite frankly," said Mike Kilfoyle, a construction contractor who worked on the building.

Long-time residents of the historic town said they had never seen such a disgraceful act.

"Ii just couldn't believe it. I've lived here for 25 years and never experienced anything like this in the community," said Rev. Tom Biery, of the First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora.

"It's terrible. It's really disgusting to do something like this to a church of God," said Grimm DePanicis of the Mount Dora Center for the Arts.
