MPD officers arrest alleged theft at synagogue

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison Police arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly trying to burglarize a downtown synagogue.

An employee at Beth Israel Center on Mound St. was working early into Sunday morning when she heard someone in the basement.

She called police, who arrived to find a burglary in progress.

They caught the alleged thief red-handed filling his pockets with money and jewelry.

The suspect has a history of similar crimes. He was taken into custody on tentative charges of Burglary, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Felony Bail Jumping, and a Parole Violation.
