New Church fire in Wills Point not arson case

| February 14, 2010

UPDATE (1:53 p.m.): KLTV is on the scene of this morning's small fire at Wills Point International Outreach Church. Pastor Michael Williams says the fire was a small one that burned about a three foot patch of carpet under a pool table in the upstairs youth area of the church. Pastor Williams says it was put out quickly and says it appears it was deliberately set by one or two children. He says church services were underway in another part of the building when members of the congregation began smelling smoke. An investigation discovered the fire under the pool table. ATF agents already in the area investigating other fires arrived but soon after, turned the case over to the Van Zandt County Fire Marshal. Williams says the fire is not related to the recent string of church arsons. Russell Memorial Methodist Church in Wills Point was destroyed by arson February 4th. KTLV will have more on the story tonight on KLTV 7 News at 10.

UPDATE: The fire at Wills Point International Outreach Church is not related to the recent rash of church arson fires according to church pastor, Michael Williams. The fire started around 11:15 this morning, during Sunday morning church services. KLTV has a crew at the scene and will bring you more developments tonight on KLTV 7 News at 10 and all day on kltv.com.
