New Telephone Scam Targets Big Country Churches

ABILENE, Texas — KTXS has done stories on past scams in an attempt to warn you how to protect yourself, but it seems bad guys are aware people are on to their tricks and are changing their ways.

Now thieves are going after churches in an attempt to exploit their charity.

Abilene Police Detective John Clark said it's an old trick thieves play.

"The Nigerian scam is where someone calls somebody and tries to trick them into making a wire transfer to them," said Detective Clark.

Grandparents have been targeted in the past, and now two churches in the Big Country have received these phony calls.
