LAKELAND —  New information has been released in the investigation of a man accused of walking into a Lakeland church and opening fire after allegedly killing his wife.

According to Polk County Sheriff's detectives, Jeremiah Fogle walked into the Greater Faith Christian Church last September and shot two pastors.

Newly released crime scene photos from discovery documents show the inside of the church just after the shooting, including a photo of a microphone stand detectives said church members used to fight back against Fogle. According to officials, Fogle was taken into custody with a laceration to his head and one round left in the chamber of his .32 caliber revolver. Fogle had another six rounds in his pocket.

Detectives said Fogle stormed through the doors as church members prayed, walked to the front of the sanctuary and shot Pastor William Boss and Associate Pastor Carl Stewart. As many as 20 parishioners were in the church taking part in a prayer service prior to the regular morning service.

According to officials, Fogle was wearing dress pants and a dress shirt as he walked through the front door of the church, walked down the center aisle and walked over to the right side of the church where Boss was kneeling in prayer. Fogle allegedly bent down — as if to identify Boss — stood and shot Boss in the back of the skull.
