| July 3, 2011

SAPULPA — The U.S. Attorney’s Office told Creek County deputies that a cross burning at a Sapulpa church will not be investigated as a hate crime.

Sheriff’s Lt. Charles Redfern said in a news release that all documents related to the case have been submitted to the Creek County District Attorney’s Office, including affidavits for arrest warrants.

Three people — two juveniles and an 18-year-old — were questioned by investigators about the June 23 incident at St. John’s Baptist Church on 161st Street near Hickory Street.

According to Redfern, Uriah James Leach, 18, allegedly admitted to investigators that he was involved in the incident.
