| February 21, 2010

Officials investigating a string of arsons targeting churches in east Texas have confirmed two male suspects are now in custody.

Jean Dark, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper and public information officer for the Tyler District, told the Tyler Morning Telegraph the two suspects were apprehended early this morning.

“One was taken into custody in San Antonio, and the other in the Grand Saline area in the wee hours of the morning,” Trooper Dark said.

While details are still sketchy at this point, officials said the two men will be transported to Smith County, where they will be jailed and face changes on multiple counts of arson. Trooper Dark said a press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. today, at which time details of the arrests and the identifications of the suspects will be released.

The press conference is being held at the Smith County Peace Officers building just off U.S. Highway 69 North. Officials declined any further comments on the case until the press conference this afternoon.
