Omaha woman faces jail sentence in $50,000 theft from Blair church

| February 18, 2013

A former office manager was sentenced to prison Tuesday for stealing nearly $50,000 from the First Christian Church of Blair.

Mary Ann Aten, 56, of Omaha pleaded no contest in Washington County District Court to felony theft and attempted misdemeanor income tax evasion.

In return, the prosecution dropped two counts of income tax evasion and one count of filing a fraudulent state tax return.

District Judge John Samson ordered Aten to spend one to two years in prison for felony theft and one year for the income tax charge. The sentences are to be served at the same time. Aten also must pay $12,000 to First Christian Church after her release. The church is not seeking full restitution because Aten worked one year at her job without pay.
