One person shot at church event

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police are investigating a shooting that happened at a church community center Friday night.

Police say nearly 25 shots rang out at Streams of Hope Community Center at 280 60th Street around 11 pm Friday.

The shooting happened during an event, which was meant to provide a safe place for teens after a local basketball game.

Streams of Hope Streams of Hope Executive Director Paul Holtrop said in a press release on the community center's website on Saturday that the event was on the behalf of a regular program participant who is also an East Kentwood High School student.
