CLAYMONT, Del. — A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly stealing $18,000 from Holy Rosary Church on Saturday after his parents called police to say they believed he may have committed the crime.
Jeffrey R. Maichle was charged with breaking into the church on Philadelphia Pike and making off with the proceeds from a carnival the night before, according to Delaware State Police.
The theft occurred sometime on June 1. The money, earned on Friday from the carnival, was in a safe inside of the church. When a carnival volunteer opened the safe late Saturday afternoon, he found that a large amount of the cash was missing.
Investigators found no sign of forced entry into the church or safe.
