Pastor accused of stealing from church

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) – A long-time pastor at a popular central-city church is being accused of stealing cash from his congregation. It's the latest accusation in a court battle that's deeply divided members of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church over the firing of a pastor who refuses to leave.

Three members of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1401 Hoag Ave., accuse their pastor in a police report of stealing more than $28,000 from the church– theft involving cash and a car.

"You hear it from other churches, but you'd never believe it'd happen to your church," said Eddie Ransom, who started attending Mt. Pilgrim in the 1950's.

Ransom is among those trying to rid the church Rev. Raymond Bishop, Jr., who’s been pastor at the church since 1990. His accusers claim $15,000 is missing from church coffers.
