Pastor arraigned on embezzlement charges

| January 4, 2012

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- A Grand Rapids pastor, formally charged with embezzlement, may have misused more than $230,000 from the church.

Tuesday morning, Reverend Arthur Pearson arrived at the Kent County jail. He's accused of embezzling between $50,000 and $100,000 from Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

Court documents show the amount could have been much more. In a forensic analysis of the church's finances, it indicates Pearson spent up to $237,000 on personal expenses between 2008 and 2011.

Pearson was charged with one count of embezzlement. His attorney, Allen Wolf says his client did nothing wrong. "There has been no intent to defend or cheat the church out of anything."
