Pastor Says Investigators Believe Church Van Fires Were Arson

| June 27, 2010

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A First Coast minister says someone set fire to two of his church's vans early Saturday morning.

The vans belong to New Life Community Church on Wingate Road on Jacksonville's Northside.

Pastor Jeffrey Oglesby said Jacksonville Police officers came to his parsonage to tell him about the van fires Saturday morning.

Oglesby said there are state and local investigators working the case.

He said some people believe the van fires could be connected to other fires in the neighborhood.

Oglesby said the vans were set on fire between 3 a.m. – 4 a-m.

"I was in shock to see these two vehicles torched, gutted by fire," Oglesby explained. "One tire was still smoking. It was a grief-stricken experience."

The pastor said the vans are used for ministry work and to pick-up church members for services.

Another church has offered to lend New Life Community Church its van Sunday morning.

No one was hurt.
