Police looking for church thief

| August 5, 2009

The Slidell police are asking the community for help in catching a person who allegedly stole an iPod player from the purse of someone during a Mass at St. Margaret Mary Church July 26.

Assistant Police Chief Jesse Simon said that church officials told police that a woman, who was caught on a surveillance camera came into the church kitchen during the 6 p.m. Mass. On the video the woman is seen removing the iPod from a purse, wrapping the headphones around the music player and then hiding it. After taking the iPod the suspect is then seen on the video moving the purse several times, going through the pockets of a jacket in the kitchen and going through the food pantry.

“I thought I had seen everything,” Simon said, “But this is really low.”

If anyone has any information on the woman or the theft, they are asked to call Detective Stan Rabalais at 646-4347. After hours, people can call the Slidell Police Department at 643-3131.
