Police Make Arrests In Mercer Island Anti-Semitic Vandalism Case

| October 7, 2010

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — Mercer Island Police arrested two people and served search warrants at three Mercer Island Homes Wednesday in the case of anti-Semitic vandalism found at Northwest Yeshiva High School on Sept. 17, police said.

These people are suspected to be responsible for three graffiti incidents that occurred on Sept. 14 at Island Park Elementary School and on Sept. 17 at the Yeshiva High School and the St. Monica's Catholic Church, police said.

Two Mercer Island juveniles, both 17, were arrested, police said. An 18-year-old Mercer Island adult who is wanted in connection with the incident is still at large and supposedly is in another state.

The arrests were made after police acted on tips they received from the public, police said.

Evidence was found during police searches that tied the suspects to the crimes, police said. Police also tied one of the people to additional graffiti incidents on Mercer Island that occurred during the last few years.

One of the individuals was also tied to narcotics trafficking, police said.

Charges are to be filed with the King County Prosecuting Attorneys Office.
