Police: Vandalism at Salinas synagogue may be a hate crime

| June 23, 2009

Salinas police detectives are investigating vandalism at Temple Beth El as a possible hate crime after swastikas and ethnic slurs were found at the synagogue's property last week.

David Finkelstein, first vice president of Congregation Temple Beth El, said swastikas, anti-Semitic and Nazi graffiti, "among other things" had been scrawled on the sidewalks and entry way of the temple.

Finkelstein said it was a shocking find for members of the only synagogue in Salinas.
