Prison time possible for man charged in church theft

An Eau Claire man could face nearly 27 years in prison after authorities charged him Thursday with stealing thousands of dollars from a Chippewa Falls church.

Chippewa County authorities have charged Kurt W. Meyer, 39, 2003 Manor Court, with three felonies and a misdemeanor for allegedly stealing Christmas donations from St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 810 Pearl St., late Dec. 26 or early Dec. 27.

The church collected nearly $30,000 during Christmastime services, some of which was to be sent to an orphanage in Peru.

Meyer faces a felony burglary charge, a felony theft charge, a felony charge of owning tools used for burglary and a misdemeanor for property damage.
