Probe into $5m church swindle

| August 28, 2011

THE Uniting Church of Australia has lost up to $5 million in a major swindle, which is being investigated by police.

Cars have been seized as part of a Victoria Police investigation into the theft from the church in Melbourne.

It could be months before the full extent of the theft becomes clear, as accountants look into exactly how much money has disappeared.

Detectives from the Melbourne North CIU, the fraud squad and the criminal proceeds squad have been working on the police investigation.

Search warrants have been executed at several properties in the northeastern suburbs.
