FREMONT — A Rocky River man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing thousands of dollars from St. Joseph Catholic Church.

William Horning, 46, pleaded no contest to theft in April, and was also ordered to make restitution of $96,430 to St. Joseph Catholic Church, according to court records.

Common Pleas Judge Barbara Ansted sentenced Horning on the theft charge Friday, but gave him 58 days credit against the sentence.

According to court records, between June 28, 2007, and Nov. 8, 2007, Horning took more than $5,000 but less than $10,000 from St. Joseph to manufacture custom solid wood pews and did not perform the work.

He was taken back to the Cuyahoga County jail after the sentencing, where he was being housed.
