| November 15, 2011

Whatever happened to the man accused of bombing a California synagogue who tried to hide in Cleveland Heights?

Ron Hirsch, 61, remains in federal custody while awaiting trial in April.

Hirsch, who also went by the names Ronald Jay Fisher and Israel Fisher, was arrested in Cleveland Heights April 11 and was accused of fleeing prosecution in connection with the April 7 bombing of Chabad House in Santa Monica, Calif. No one was injured in the bombing.

Hirsch fled California by bus, investigators said, and got off in Cleveland to seek refuge in the Orthodox Jewish community in Cleveland Heights. Rabbis, unaware that Hirsch was being sought by police, offered him help and a hotel room, as is their custom.
