Second man arrested in Norfolk synagogue vandalisms

| January 23, 2010

A man suspected of vandalizing Norfolk synagogues with anti-Semitic stickers was arrested Tuesday in Tampa, Fla.

It was the second arrest in the vandalisms, which happened April 17. Two men put anti-Semitic and anti-gay stickers on synagogues and were caught on camera at one of them, police said.

Christopher John Brooks, 25, was charged with injury to a church with the intent to instill fear or intimidation because of religion, and conspiracy to commit a felony. A grand jury indicted him on the charges this month.

In July, John Edward Grogan, 29, of Waynesboro, was arrested on two counts of injury to a church with the intent to instill fear and intimidation because of religion, and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.

He has been indicted and is scheduled for a hearing Feb. 10 in Norfolk Circuit Court.

Both men are affiliated with white supremacist groups, police said.
