Sheriff: Teen Taped Women In Church, Restaurant Bathrooms

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. — A metro Atlanta teenager is accused of using his cell phone to videotape women in area restrooms, said investigators with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said David Gormley, 17, simply hit the record button and then hid the phone in at least three women’s restrooms, including at a Chick-fil-A restaurant where he worked.

Investigators are now busy trying to identify some of the women on the recordings.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Tony Thomas spoke with Lt. Tony Wooten with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office about how Gormley allegedly pulled off the crime.

“He had it set up in different places … and different ways in different places,” said Wooten. “It was pushed on record, so whoever went in during that point would have been recorded.”

The phone was spotted by another employee earlier this month. She told her boss, who then called authorities. Investigators then discovered the Chick-fil-A wasn't the only place that the phone had been hidden.

Investigators said Gormley also videotaped unsuspecting women at the church his family attends, and also in his own home when an unrelated female was visiting.

Lt. Wooten told Thomas that as many as 12 different women and girls are recorded on the phone, four of whom are under the age of 16.

Gormley is free on a $40,000 bond and charged with four counts of unlawful surveillance.

“In some of the shots, we were not able to identify the victims based on the footage that we had,” said Wooten.

The franchise owner of the Chick-Fil-A wouldn't go on camera, but released a statement to Channel 2 which read in part: “We were made aware of this situation on Saturday, January 9.” “The employee has been terminated and the matter was turned over to authorities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this family,” the statement said.

Police said Gormley and his family have cooperated in the matter.

Thomas visited Gormley’s home Thursday, but no one would come to the door.

As far as they can tell, investigators said that the images had not been forwarded to the Internet or anywhere else.
