Shrubs Stolen from Buffalo Church

| August 13, 2010

BUFFALO, NY: Stolen shrubs are leaving parishoners of a modest East Side church shaking their heads.

A thief on a bicycle stole two shrubs from the front of St. Lawrence Catholic Church on Buffalo's East Side. The surveillance video caught the peddling pilferer in the act. The incident happened just after 6:00am Thursday morning. A priest who serves the parish says the crime is somewhat demoralizing.

"How can you steal and take from a church? And why would you take the shrubs, you know?, said Fr. Joseph Moreno.

"And especially because we do so many things in the community– we have our food pantry. We have our clinic," added Father Moreno.

Father Joe says he's not looking for a pound of flesh. He just wants the plants back! The rest, he says, will be left up to God.

The videotape shows someone on a black bike wearing a dark shirt and dark jean shorts, riding northbound on Delevan Avenue.

If you have information about this burglary you're asked to call Buffalo Police at 847-2255.
