CONYERS — A Snellville man was charged with kidnapping Sunday afternoon after he allegedly went to a church where his estranged wife was in attendance and forced her to leave with him.

The suspect, Matthew Ryan Boutelle, 24, of 4620 Calleigh Way, Snellville, was arrested by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Newton County Sheriff's Office, at his father's home in Newton County on Sunday.

Boutelle allegedly went to the Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Glenn Road at about 4 p.m. Sunday, went inside where congregants were taking a break, and forced his 23-year-old wife to go outside with him.

RCSO Investigator Michael Camp said Boutelle "forcibly walked" the victim toward his car, apparently against her will. He then reportedly drove out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.
