Special Report: Investigators Discuss Church Fires

| February 14, 2011

A phone call changed it all.

"We got a phone call from a female saying her husband was good friends with two guys who are claiming to be the ones doing the church fires," Texas Ranger, Brent Davis, said.

The tip lead Davis and former ATF agent Larry Smith to Jason Bourque and Daniel McAllister.

"When the tip came in 2 of the ATF investigators went to Bourque's grandparents where they observed some sketcher shoes in the garages and we knew sketchers were the shoes we were looking for that placed the suspect back at the church locations,"Davis said.

That Sketcher print was found at several burned churches next to a Red Wing boot print, it belonged to Daniel McAllister. He was wearing those boots when he was arrested on February 21st, 2010.

But before McAllister and Bourque ended up in jail, they were secretly watched by investigators for days.

"They were put out in the woods where they stay all day and all night and we had mobile surveillance down the road hidden, so when Jason Bourque and his girlfriend would leave they would tell ground surveillance he's leaving in this direction and later we use aerial surveillance with helicopters and a plane from DPS," Smith said.
