St Mary’s parishioners mystifed by stud thefts

| June 26, 2011

PARISHIONERS in Woodkirk have been left puzzled and upset by the latest theft to hit their church.

On Sunday, June 12, they noticed 12 iron studs had been prised out of a medieval door in the oldest part of the church.

Church volunteer Kath Randall said: “We just don’t understand defacing such a beautiful and ancient thing, why would someone want to spoil it?

“They can’t be replaced.”

She said the door is known as the monks’ door and dates back to the 13th century.
