Sugar Land Church Robbed Of Tithes

| October 29, 2011

SUGAR LAND, Texas — Police are searching for a man who broke into a Sugar Land church and took off with money from a collection box.

Hani Farih, a parishioner at Forty Holy Martyrs Orthodox Christian Church says he got a call from his priest about the burglary and showed up at the church. There, he says he found the front door smashed in and a collection box missing.

"It was amazing to me, really," Farih says. "The last thing you would think of is people going and taking a collection box or stealing at church."

Farih says the thief got away with less than $500, but the act of stealing hurts more that the amount of money lost.

Doug Adolph, a spokesman for Sugar Land police, said investigators are talking with staff to find out if anybody suspicious was in the church in the days before the burglary.
