Sunday Church Fire Caused by Arson

| May 23, 2011

PHOENIX – A fire on Sunday that nearly destroyed a valley church was caused by arson.

Firefighters said the blaze at Echo Mountain Church near 20th Street and Westcott Drive was intentionally set by someone.

The fire began in the church’s attic at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

It was under control within a few hours, but that was enough time to cause damage to large areas of the building.
