Suspect arrested in thefts from Highland Park United Methodist Church

| October 14, 2010

A Dallas man has been arrested in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars in electronics from Highland Park United Methodist Church.

John Blair Wells, 29, faces felony theft charges several items turned up missing at the Mockingbird Lane church, including a sound board, two Blu-ray DVD players and a Mac computer.

On Friday, he was booked in to the Dallas County Jail, where he remains in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Wells has a history of burglary in Highland Park and is a suspect in similar church burglaries in University Park, said Marty Nevil, a Highland Park police spokesman.

Police say he sold the stolen items to pawnshops using his real name. Police recovered some of the stolen items and tracked down Wells using that information.

At least one theft was also caught on videotape at the church, and a witness was able to pick Wells out of a photo lineup.
