Teen claims she was raped during church service

| October 20, 2010

Indianapolis — Indianapolis Metro Police sex crimes detectives are working to determine if a teenage girl visiting from out of state was raped in church during services or if there was consensual sex during the sermon.

According to an IMPD police report the 16-year-old girl told investigators she was raped. The claim was made while she was being checked by doctors at St. Vincent's Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

The teen says she was forced to have sex around 12:30 p.m. in a secluded stairwell of Grace Apostolic Church located at East 22nd Street and College Avenue.

Investigators say the girl knew the 14-year-old boy only by his first name, but police will not release any other details until they have completed interviews of everyone that could have been involved.

Church leaders at Grace Apostolic refused comment until the investigation is completed.

Teenagers who live near the church were shocked to hear of the accusation and say they, as females, fear being sexual assaulted.

"Yes I fear it," said Monique Mack. "In church? I wouldn't know what to do."
