Teens Arrested In Church Arson

| July 22, 2010

NASHVILLE, Ind. — Two teens have been arrested in connection with a fire set at a decades-old church in rural Brown County.

Grandview Apostolic Church near Nashville was destroyed in an early-morning blaze last week that investigators later ruled arson.

Stephen Moore, 18, of Columbus, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested Wednesday night.

Moore was preliminarily charged with conspiracy to commit arson. He was released on bond on Thursday.

According to Moore's MySpace page, he graduated from Columbus East High School this spring. He also classifies himself as an atheist.

Information about charges against the 17-year-old boy were not released because he is a juvenile.

Church members told 6News' Rick Hightower that besides the damage to the historic building, the word "freaks" and other offensive language was spray painted on an old school bus used as classroom near the church.

No one was injured in the blaze.
