Teens tried to burn down church: police

| October 28, 2009

Two teenagers have been charged after vandalising a church west of Brisbane.

The pair, aged 17 and 19, allegedly broke into the Ipswich Regional Community church on Ripley Road just before midnight on Tuesday, writing graffiti on the walls, destroying furniture and smashing holes through doors.

They also tried to set the building alight but when that failed, they turned their attention to a house in nearby Avon Street at Leichhardt, police said.

They were charged with two counts of attempted arson and one count each of wilful damage and are due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
