Two air-conditioning units stolen from Center Point Church in North Richland Hills

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Pastor Jay Bruner was disappointed Friday morning to learn that someone had stolen two air-conditioning units from Center Point Church in North Richland Hills.

"I feel more sad for them than angry," said Bruner, who started the church, 7804 Mid Cities Blvd., with his wife 11 years ago. "If they would have just come in the front door, we could have helped them. Obviously, we will forgive them. But I feel for them, that they are in such a difficult spot that they have to steal."

According to North Richland Hills police, the units were stolen late Thursday or early Friday. It was the third time in a month that an air-conditioning unit had been stolen from a commercial building after its wires were cut, Lt. Billy Privett said.

No other area churches have been hit, he said, and investigators don't believe that the crimes are connected.

Bruner said the units cooled three children's classrooms, which are used during services as well as for special events.

Bruner said the church planned to use the classrooms this weekend for Day to Shine, in which battered women are pampered while church members care for their children.

He said the church will make do with what it has or try to install temporary units until new ones can be purchased.

"We will figure something out," Bruner said. "This isn't going to stop anything."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS (8477).
