Urban Mission Beefs Up Security After Theft

| October 10, 2011

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — Urban Mission is installing better security measures Monday after the administrative offices were robbed last month.

Thieves got away with three computers and a hard drive, and police are investigating the case. Since the theft, Urban Mission Director Ashley Steele said the organization has moved forward with construction to reinforce the church’s doors.

"We've been able to add some new doors, some new locks on our doors,” said Steele. “Also the way that we enter the building, we've restricted the entrance at this point.”

Even though they haven't gotten back any of their computers, Steele said they are moving forward from the crime. Urban Mission will have new computers this week to replace the ones stolen.

Steele said they’ve had to get by using their personal computers, but a generous community also stepped up to help out the service-driven organization.

"Many have just sent words of encouragement in the mail as well as donations,” said Steele. “We've even had a lot of in-kind donations, so computers donated to us, that we can certainly put to good use."

Steele said that the police are still following some leads on the case.
