Vandals cause $40k in damages to church

UPDATE: Grand Junction Police say the extent of damage is estimated at 30 to 40 thousands dollars. Every room except two were virtually destroyed. Vandals took baseball bats to every TV, set off fire extinguishers, sprayed graffiti and broke almost all the glass in the building. The vandals also burned the American flag and the church flag along with a pew. Police say they believe more than one person is involved one of them left blood evidence at the scene. They are currently dusting for fingerprints and going over all of the evidence. The church has 80 active members.


A local church was found in shambles and in flames early Monday morning. Authorities believe it is the act of vandals, who they say have destroyed the inside of the church.

The call came in around 3:30 a.m. that smoke was coming from the Trinity Baptist Church in Grand Junction. Flames could be seen through the windows. When firefighters arrived at the scene off of 27 1/2 and B 1/2, they saw smoke coming from the steeple and found a pew on fire inside. They had the flames knocked out in minutes, and they are calling it an arson.
