A man of 43 was last night being questioned over the murder of a vicar in his home.

The suspect was held after Reverend John Suddards, 59, was found stabbed to death.

It emerged that Rev Suddards would invite the needy and hungry into his home.

A friend said: “John never wanted to turn anyone away.”

The Venerable Geoffrey Sidaway, archdeacon of Gloucester, added: “Many clergy open their homes to people and that can make them vulnerable.”
