Violence in Mexico Impacts Cross-Border Missionary Work

| February 4, 2012

CORPUS CHRISTI – Just one day after two Texas missionaries were found murdered in their home in northern Mexico, churches here in Corpus Christi say they are also being impacted by the drug violence in that country.

Local pastors say violence is forcing them to cut back their charitable works in Mexico.

"It's so close to us and it's a different world. how they have to live and what they have to endure," says Ray Elizondo, pastor with New Life Baptist Church.

In the past, Elizondo has organized trips to Mexico to help build homes. Now his congregation's work focuses on the Brownsville area.

Pastor Steve Hartwick with First Baptist Church says he's also had to make some drastic changes. Hartwick tell us he's seen first hand how dangerous things can get in Mexico.
