Virgin Mary statue taken from Coventry Township church

| March 17, 2012

COVENTRY TWP.: For years, children making their First Communion posed next to a statue of the Virgin Mary just outside St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Manchester Road.

Others found comfort from the sight of the religious stone. Now, after a visit from a thief, only a pedestal remains.

Terri Evans, a member of the church for 40 years, recalled on Friday how her four children and at least half of her 12 grandchildren came to know the “Queen of Peace” statue.

“It seems so empty without it,” she said, looking at the barren pedestal. “She was always there, protecting us. You could always feel her great presence.”
