WAYNE COUNTY – A Wayne County teen has been arrested for allegedly breaking into a church and accessing pornographic websites and dialing 900 numbers.

Wayne County Sheriff John Stein Farrior reported that an 18-year-old male has been arrested in connection with burglary of a local church.

Tyler R. Pruitt, 18, of Pine Oakland Road, has been arrested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and charged with several counts of burglary of a church.

According to officials, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of a burglary at Riverside Baptist Church on March 22nd.

Farrior, along with Investigators Mike Mozingo and Kevin Stevens, responded to the incident, according to departmental reports.

The “initial investigation revealed that the church and the parsonage office had been forcibly entered,” Stevens said in a press release. “It was also discovered that the computer and Internet were used to access pornographic websites.”

According to officials, these incidents had been occurring on and off since August 2009.

“Church members placed a hidden game camera near the computer after the previous incident,” Stevens said in the release. “Using a photograph captured with the hidden game camera, Tyler Pruitt, 18, of Pine Oakland Road was identified as the culprit.”

Pruitt was taken into custody by Investigator Mike Mozingo and Chief Deputy Gerald Barnett.

During the investigation process, Investigators Mozingo and Stevens learned that Pruitt had entered the church and parsonage/office three times to use the computers and telephone to access toll 900 numbers and pornographic websites.

According to records, Pruitt was arrested and booked into the Wayne County Detention Center on six counts of burglary of a church.

Law enforcement officials reported that a zip drive and a video recorder, that had been taken during the previous burglary, were recovered.

The teen’s initial court appearance in Wayne County Justice Court was conducted last week. Justice Court Judge Jane Hutto set Pruitt’s bond at a total of $18,000.

Stevens said he is scheduled to present the case involving Pruitt to the July 2010 Grand Jury.
