Windsor Police Taser Man During Assault at Downtown Church

| September 3, 2012

Windsor Police have arrested a man who attacked a man of the cloth at a Downtown Windsor church yesterday.

Police were dispatched to St. Alphonsus Church at 85 Park Street East at 12:47pm for a male in the Church causing a disruption. Officers arrived at the Church and observed a large group of people exiting the Church in a panic; several children were crying.

Police say their officers went inside the Church and observed a male at the front near the altar, holding the Church’s Deacon by his shoulders.

Officers immediately saw the look of concern on the Deacon’s face as the male was chanting loudly in an intimidating voice and was observed to be sweating profusely. As officers approached, Police say the Deacon was waving his hand signaling that he needed help.

Police say their officers ordered the male to release the Deacon, but these commands were ignored. Officers broke the mans grasp of the Deacon and attempted to gain control of the male to place him under arrest. He immediately became resistant and struggled with police. He displayed “enormous” strength as he fought with police.
