FLINT, Mi — Authorities say a man is in custody after he allegedly raped one woman and tried to rape another at a downtown Flint church.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell said the incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Third and Saginaw streets.

Pickell said the attacker met the first woman at the Mass Transportation Authority on Harrison and Second streets in downtown Flint.

The 24-year-old woman asked the man if he had any food because she was hungry and the man proceeded to take her to the church, which is known for its outreach services to the less fortunate, Pickell said.

While at the church, Pickell said the suspect coerced the woman with what she thought was a gun into the men's restroom and raped her.

Pickell said no gun was discovered and he believes he actually threatened her with a cellphone.

After the alleged rape, Pickell said the man fled the church.
