Woman Arrested for Embezzling Church Organization

| June 18, 2010

GILBERT – A Gilbert woman has been arrested for defrauding the religious organization for which she worked.

Back in April, Gilbert Police began investigating an embezzlement case at the Phoenix Catholic Diocese Women's Organization.

Investigators found that between July 2008 and March 2010, 49-year-old Yvonne Miles embezzled $11,196 from PCDWO while holding a position as Treasurer.

Police say that Miles had access to the organization's bank account and was one of its signers. She allegedly wrote over 55 checks to herself, forging a second signature that was required for each check.

She then deposited the money into her personal checking account, police say.

Miles was arrested on Tuesday. She was booked into the 4th Ave Jail on theft by embezzlement and forgery charges.
