Woman charged in Southport pastor’s death, motive still unknown

| May 21, 2012

Court documents filed today shed little light on why a pastor at a Southport church was shot Saturday morning.

Lori Ann Barcroft, 46, has been charged with the murder of 29-year-old Jaman Iseminger, the pastor at Bethel Community Church, but court documents filed with the murder charge don’t say why she shot him.

According to the documents, Barcroft wore a dark hooded sweatshirt and carried a backpack when she arrived at the church shortly before 7 a.m. When she found a volunteer who was there to help clean up a nearby cemetery, she asked for Iseminger by name.

The volunteer, Jeff Harris, told her that Iseminger was in his office downstairs, according to the documents. She walked away, and a few seconds later, Harris said he heard at least one gunshot. He went toward the stairs and Barcroft raise the gun at him and told him to leave. He ran into the parking lot and hid next to an equipment trailer.
