Young minister fatally shot at an Indy church; suspect held

| May 19, 2012

A young minister was shot and killed at his Southport church this morning. A woman is being detained by police.

The victim was identified as Jaman Iseminger, 28, pastor at Bethel Community Church since 2005. He was a graduate of Oral Roberts and Indiana Wesleyan universities, and a 2001 graduate of Southport High School.

Iseminger is survived by his wife, Amanda, and a 2-year-old daughter.

A friend at the church, Danny Carroll, described Iseminger as a "mighty man of God,'' saying he had recently returned from an AIDS mission to South Africa. His mother, Gina Iseminger, described her son as "joyful, weird, wacky,'' saying he once allowed his congregation to pelt him with rotten tomatoes during a Purim service.

The shooting occurred just before 7 a.m. at the church, 2810 E Southport Road.

"When officers arrived on the scene, they located a white male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,'' IMPD Sgt. Linda Jackson said in a news release.|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE&nclick_check=1
